Freshen up your front porch this summer and add an “outdoor room” to your home! With a few swaps, additions or subtractions, your front porch or patio will become your favorite place to hang out.
Declutter, Clean and Repair: Start by removing items that are worn out. Do a heavy cleaning of your patio furniture, outdoor carpet, tables and any other items that live outside all year. Power wash the cement or touch up paint on wood. Run any cushion covers through the washer.
New to You: Make easy swaps to give your porch new life. Upgrade your doormat. Repot plants that have outgrown their home and trim. You can even paint your planters a new color to coordinate with your porch. Add a new pillow or two in your color scheme. If your porch rug is worn out, choose a new one to brighten the space.
Add a Little Shade: From outdoor curtains to sunshades or big umbrellas, every front porch needs a respite from the heat of the day.
Upgrades: Lighting is something that adds class to an outdoor space. Look at upgrading your porch light. Add a lantern or two — solar powered if there are no nearby outlets. Upgrade the hardware on your front door and paint it a bold color! Upgrade your outdoor furniture or add a rocking chair, footstool or interesting small table where you can keep potted or cut flowers.
