Prepare your home for summer with an indoor/outdoor checklist that will hopefully get you started on the right path this summer.
Inside Your Home:
1. Windows — Clean your windows, and check for air leaks repairing weatherstripping as you go. Make sure blinds are turned so that they reflect the sun back outside, or use curtains to block the heat of the day.
2. HVAC Systems — Change air filters and get duct work professionally cleaned for optimum efficiency.
3. Storage — Switch out cold weather clothing for summer clothes. Store away cold weather tools and equipment and bring out lawn care tools for easy access.
4. Bedrooms — Change bedding to lighter-weight comforter. Switch rotation of ceiling fans to keep cool air circulating. Make sure heat from windows is blocked with shades.
Outside Your Home:
1. Air Conditioner — Hose down the outside unit, and have a check-up done.
2. Yard/Lawn — Weed and feed your lawn before a big rainstorm, as this will strengthen growth for summer. Patch holes with sod or seed. Pull up volunteer baby trees from yard.
3. Patio Furniture — Wipe down all of your patio furniture and run cushion covers through the laundry. Make sure umbrellas are intact and repair or replace fabric if needed.
4. Landscaping — Trim back out-of-control bushes and tree branches. Especially the branches hanging over your roof. Add a layer of mulch to garden beds. Repot plants that have outgrown their planters.
